Growing up, founder Wes Miller was part of an Amish community in the Hutchinson area. The community valued good, honest hard work, and most of the men were farmers or worked in some type of construction. As an adult, Wes spent 15 years working for a construction company that specialized in pouring basements underneath existing homes.
While working for the basement company, Wes helped install window wells in new basements. Besides learning basement construction inside and out, he also became deeply familiar with concrete in underground construction.
In 2009, Wes had the opportunity to purchase a precast window well business. At the time, the business primarily focused on casting the window wells and selling the heavy concrete walls to contractors. After acquiring the business, Wes had the technology engineered, allowing the window wells to be installed in major cities with more stringent codes.
Over time, Wes noticed that there was a need in the Central Kansas area for a contractor that would do a great job of installing egress window wells. With the help of his brother-in-law, Wes started installing window wells in the Hutchinson and Wichita areas. Happy customers started telling their friends about their experience. As word spread, Wes had to hire more employees and give his complete attention to Illumicast.
As Wes and his team gained experience, they were able to hone their process to the point that they could install a new egress window well in almost any home in a single day. The crew’s efficiency helped Illumicast to maintain competitive pricing, and customers loved the fast installation.
While Illumicast has grown a lot since 2009, it’s still very much a local, family owned business. Wes and his wife Denise adopted three children around the time that he began precasting window wells. Because he is passionate about fostering and adoption, he began an annual tradition of installing a completely free egress window well for a deserving foster/adoptive family.
Wes is passionate about providing top notch service to every Illumicast customer. He encourages his team to look for ways to go above and beyond on each project. It’s rooted in the mission of Illumicast: Bring Life and Light with excellence because we value people and their property.
