Family is a big value for owner Wes Miller. Over a decade ago, he and his wife Denise, adopted three children. They have a passion for supporting families involved in adoption and foster care.
Our annual initiative to provide a free egress window installation to a deserving foster family is one way we can support this worthy cause. This year, we had the privilege of working with Priscilla Hughes, a remarkable foster parent whose story touched our hearts.
Priscilla's journey into foster care began in 2016, alongside her husband, with a shared dream of offering a haven for children in need. Together they worked to become licensed and began to offer respite and foster care.
Despite facing personal tragedy with the loss of her husband to COVID, Priscilla's resolve to continue their shared mission remains unshaken. Her passion is to help children heal from trauma and know that they are loved.
Due to the size and layout of Priscilla’s home, she could only accept one or two children at one time for foster care. A new egress window would allow her to accept larger sibling groups.
Priscilla and her husband first learned about us at the Wichita Home Show a number of years ago. She was impressed with the quality of our egress window wells, but they weren’t able at that time to move forward with purchasing an egress window.
Last year, Priscilla noticed our social media post welcoming foster families to apply for our giveaway. She didn’t take any action right away, but then a friend from church urged her to apply.
Sometime later she got a call from Wes Miller. It happened to be the day before Priscilla’s birthday, “When… he contacted me and said I won, I was just overwhelmed. I didn’t know what to say. I was speechless because I've never won anything.”
Normally we like to install the new egress well before the end of the year. However, due to scheduling delays, we installed Priscilla’s new egress window in February.
Priscilla was impressed with our hard-working crew, highlighting the fact that they were very organized.
“I was especially impressed with their efficiency, attention to high-quality detail, and keeping the inside room clean,” she says. “They also made sure the treated respectfully was treated respectfully during installation.“
Priscilla is deeply grateful.
“It was the best birthday present I could ever imagine.”
We wish Priscilla all the best as she continues to bring love and healing to the children in her care.
