Egress Window Spotlight: The Loren Harder Project

Digging Egress Window Well

Loren Harder left us a 5 star review on Google with some great photos. In today’s post, we’ll share those photos with you and explain what’s happening.

First, we’ll start with the original small basement window.

As is often the case, Loren’s basement had this small window that didn’t allow very much light to enter his basement. It also would not have been easy to use as an escape window during a fire

In this photo, long time employee Dwight Miller is operating the mini excavator, while project manager Adrian Miller gives instructions from inside the freshly dug hole, ensuring a precise dig.

Those boards on the grass are our optional lawn protection package. It keeps lawn damage to a minimum. Also notice how the dirt is contained in the big metal box to keep things tidy.

To install an egress window well in a single day, we have to be organized and efficient. Those large plywood “boxes” are tool organizers that we unload with our skid steer and place near your home, saving us time when we need to grab a hand tool.

This dump truck allows us to haul off the concrete section that we remove from your basement wall, as well as the dirt from the window well hole. Our crew does a great job of cleaning up the worksite at the end of the project.

Here you can see the exterior of the egress window well after completion. The cover is lightweight and strong, keeping pesky little frogs and precious little humans from falling into the well by accident. This is our clear window well cover. If you want a cover that offers a little bit of shade, we also have a semi-translucent option.

Loren was very happy with the entire installation process. Now that you’ve seen the project through his eyes, here is a summary in his words:

“These guys are really good at what they do! They put down the lawn protection, dug, cut the concrete, installed the window, pre-cast well and cover, and cleaned up in less than seven hours. They were courteous and professional. Communication before and during the installation was excellent. Our new basement egress window looks great and adds value to our home.” - Loren Harder
